A little history
Brian Stevens started taking pictures as a teenager while living in the Berkshire woods of Massachusetts where environments are clearly designated as urban, suburban or rural. Not until he moved to the west coast in the fall of 2004 did he experience the kind of urban forests of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and the Hoyt Arboretum of Portland, Oregon. The series on which he is currently working entitled Night attempts to reconcile the sense of calm that he associates with the woods of his youth and the dark-alleyway fear provoked by these urban forests at night.
Brian graduated with a BFA in Photography from Massachusetts College of Art where he studied with Nick Nixon, Laura McPhee, and Kate Wolkoff. He lives and works in San Francisco.
